DR ELLIOT SHEVEL 

Dr Shevel has published thirty scientific studies in national and international peer reviewed medical journals on migraine and tension headache. His collaborators include Harvard Medical School Department of Neurology and researchers from the European and American Headache Societies.

Dr Shevel is a peer reviewer for:      'Headache' the official journal of the American Headache Society,         'Cephalalgia' the official journal of the International Headache Society,     'The European Journal of Neurology',      'The Journal of Clinical Practice',     and the 'Medical Science Monitor'. He is the founder and chairman of the International Headache Society's South African branch. The South African Headache Society is primarily concerned with developing new understanding of migraine headaches, tension headache, cluster headache, and sinus headache.

Dr Shevel has been the Medical Director at The Headache Clinic since its inception in 1992. In this capacity he heads team of practitioners, specialists, and researchers including Neurologists, Surgeons, Physiotherapists, Radiologists, General Practitioners, Psychologists, Dental Specialists, Researchers, and many others. This multidisciplinary team is dedicated to uncovering headache causes, so that treatment of migraine headaches, tension headaches, cluster, and sinus headaches at The Headache Clinic is based on sound identification of the headache causes in each individual patient. Migraine treatment and headache treatment in general should not be a hit-and-miss affair. With regard to treatment migraine pain originates in different anatomical structures, and each patient has to be individually assessed to have the best chance of treating their migraines successfully. Treatment based purely on migraine symptoms is bound to fail if the cause/s of the symptoms are not first identified.

Dr Shevel’s research programs are funded by both the South African and Italian governments. This growing international recognition is helping to drive new breakthroughs.

In television and radio interviews Dr Shevel reiterates that the option to have safe and effective procedures to relieve the extreme symptoms of chronic migraine and the addiction to pain killers will change many peoples' lives.
