The International Headache Society known as the I.H.S., is the official international scientific body coordinating research into headache and migraines for the World Health Organization. Dr Shevel is the founder and Chairman of the I.H.S.'s South African division.

Dr Shevel is a peer reviewer for the following international medical journals:

• "Headache" - This is the official medical journal of the American division of the I.H.S.
• "European Journal of Neurology" - An honour given that Dr Shevel's specialist training is as a Maxillo Facial Surgeon
